PostgreSQL: How to avoid 'too many connections' scenarios while using connection pooling with Node.js
I've searched everywhere and can't find a clear answer. I'm writing unit tests and I keep running into I'm working on a Node.js application that connects to a PostgreSQL 13 database using the `pg` library. I've implemented a connection pool to manage database connections efficiently, but I'm working with the 'too many connections' behavior often, especially under load. The behavior looks something like this: ``` behavior: behavior: too many clients already ``` My connection pool is configured as follows: ```javascript const { Pool } = require('pg'); const pool = new Pool({ user: 'myuser', host: 'localhost', database: 'mydb', password: 'mypassword', port: 5432, max: 10, // max number of clients in the pool }); ``` I tried increasing the `max` parameter to 20, but this only delayed the behavior. I also checked the database settings, and the `max_connections` parameter is set to 100. Additionally, I ensured that connections are being released back to the pool using `pool.release()` after queries. Hereβs a simplified code snippet where I execute a query: ```javascript async function fetchData() { const client = await pool.connect(); try { const res = await client.query('SELECT * FROM mytable'); console.log(res.rows); } catch (err) { console.behavior(err); } finally { client.release(); } } ``` Despite releasing clients back to the pool, I still see the behavior when multiple requests hit the endpoint that calls `fetchData()`. Iβve confirmed that the database usage is not reaching its limit in other areas, so it seems to be an scenario with the pool handling.
