How to properly handle asynchronous errors in Node.js with Express and async/await?
I'm building a feature where Hey everyone, I'm running into an issue that's driving me crazy. I'm working on a project and hit a roadblock. Currently developing an Express application and trying to implement error handling for asynchronous routes using async/await. I've read that you can catch errors using a try/catch block, but I'm not entirely sure how to properly propagate them back to the client without causing the server to crash. Here's a snippet of my code: ```javascript const express = require('express'); const app = express(); app.get('/data', async (req, res) => { try { const result = await someAsyncFunction(); // This function might throw an error res.json(result); } catch (error) { console.error('Error fetching data:', error); res.status(500).send('Internal Server Error'); } }); const PORT = process.env.PORT || 3000; app.listen(PORT, () => { console.log(`Server running on port ${PORT}`); }); ``` While this structure seems fine, I noticed that if an error occurs deep within the function `someAsyncFunction`, it logs the error, but I still want to ensure all endpoints handle errors consistently. Should I create a middleware to handle errors for these kinds of situations? Additionally, is there a recommended pattern for handling both synchronous and asynchronous errors globally in Express? I've also tried using `express-async-errors`, but I'm not quite sure if thatβs the best approach. Any insights or best practices would be greatly appreciated! My development environment is Windows. Thanks in advance! I'm on Debian using the latest version of Javascript. Any examples would be super helpful.
