PostgreSQL: How to manage large JSONB fields efficiently without hitting memory limits?
I'm prototyping a solution and I'm currently working on a PostgreSQL 13 database that stores large JSONB fields in one of my tables. The table holds user preferences that can become quite extensive, sometimes exceeding 1MB in size. I'm working with performance optimization when trying to query these large JSONB fields, especially when using functions like `jsonb_each_text` or `jsonb_set`. When I run queries that involve processing these large JSONB columns, I see memory-related errors, such as `behavior: out of memory`. To troubleshoot, I've tried increasing the `work_mem` and `maintenance_work_mem` settings in my PostgreSQL configuration, but the issues continue. For example, when executing the following query: ```sql SELECT user_id, jsonb_each_text(preferences) FROM user_preferences WHERE user_id = 123; ``` I get an behavior indicating that the operation was aborted because of excessive memory usage. I've also attempted to optimize the JSONB structure by indexing specific keys with GIN indexes, but this hasn't made a important difference. I'm looking for advice on best practices for managing and querying large JSONB objects in PostgreSQL. Are there specific configurations or query patterns that could help alleviate memory issues?
