CentOS 7 - Nginx Unable to Serve Static Files with '403 Forbidden' Despite Correct Permissions
I'm working through a tutorial and I'm running Nginx on CentOS 7 to serve a simple static website, but I'm encountering a '403 Forbidden' error when trying to access the files. The Nginx configuration is set up to serve files from `/var/www/html`, and I've confirmed that the files exist in that directory. Here are the relevant parts of my configuration: ```nginx server { listen 80; server_name example.com; root /var/www/html; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ =404; } } ``` I've checked the permissions on the `/var/www/html` directory and the files within it, and they are set as follows: ```bash ls -ld /var/www/html # drwxr-xr-x 2 nginx nginx 4096 Oct 20 12:00 /var/www/html ``` The ownership is set to `nginx:nginx`, which is the user Nginx is running under. I also verified that SELinux is in enforcing mode, and running `getsebool -a | grep httpd` shows that both `httpd_can_network_connect` and `httpd_read_user_content` are set to `off`. I tried setting SELinux to permissive mode but that didn't change anything. Additionally, I made sure that the firewall is allowing traffic on port 80: ```bash firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=http firewall-cmd --reload ``` However, I still receive the '403 Forbidden' error when trying to access the site. I've tried restarting Nginx using `systemctl restart nginx`, but that hasn't resolved the issue. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further or potential configurations I could be missing? The project is a service built with Bash. I'm open to any suggestions.
