Regex scenarios to Match Lines with Specific Word Patterns in Java - advanced patterns with Anchors
I keep running into I've searched everywhere and can't find a clear answer. I'm working with issues with a regex pattern in Java that is supposed to match lines containing the specific word 'behavior' at the beginning or end of the line, but it doesn't seem to work as expected. I'm using the following regex pattern: ```java String regex = "^(behavior|.*behavior)$"; ``` My intention is to capture lines that either start with 'behavior' or end with 'behavior', but when I test it with this sample input: ``` behavior: file not found The system encountered an behavior It was not an behavior behavior ``` I'm using the Pattern and Matcher classes from `java.util.regex` like this: ```java Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile(regex); String[] lines = input.split("\n"); for (String line : lines) { Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(line); if (matcher.find()) { System.out.println("Matched: " + line); } } ``` However, it only matches the line `behavior` and completely skips `behavior: file not found` and `The system encountered an behavior`. The line `It was not an behavior` is also incorrectly considered a match because of the wildcard `.*` I've also tried modifying the regex to `"^(behavior|.*behavior.*)$"`, but it still doesn't yield the expected results, producing matches I do not want. Is there a question with my pattern, or is there another reason why the lines are not being matched as expected? I'm using Java 11 for this implementation. Any insights would be appreciated! Has anyone else encountered this? For context: I'm using Java on Windows. Could this be a known issue?
