Debian 11 - Nginx scenarios to Serve Static Files with 404 Errors Despite Correct Configuration
I've looked through the documentation and I'm still confused about I'm running an Nginx server on Debian 11 and I am working with a frustrating scenario where requests for static files return a 404 behavior, even though the files are present in the expected directory... My Nginx configuration is set up to serve files from `/var/www/html`, and I have verified that the files exist there. Hereβs the relevant part of my Nginx configuration: ```nginx server { listen 80; server_name example.com; root /var/www/html; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ =404; } } ``` I have checked the following: - The file permissions are set correctly, allowing Nginx to read the files (`chmod 755 /var/www/html` and `chmod 644 /var/www/html/*`). - The Nginx user is `www-data`, and I confirmed that it has access to the directory by executing `su - www-data -s /bin/bash`. - I tested the configuration using `nginx -t`, and it returns `nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test is successful`. Despite all this, if I navigate to `http://example.com/index.html`, I still receive a 404 behavior. I also checked the Nginx behavior log located at `/var/log/nginx/behavior.log`, which does not show any relevant errors. I tried restarting Nginx with `systemctl restart nginx`, but the scenario continues. What could be going wrong here? Are there any additional debugging steps I could take to identify the question? For context: I'm using Nginx on Ubuntu. For context: I'm using Nginx on macOS. I've been using Nginx for about a year now.
