Unhandled Promise Rejection with Async/Await in a Node.js Express Route Handler
I'm deploying to production and I've been banging my head against this for hours. After trying multiple solutions online, I still can't figure this out... I'm working on an Express application (version 4.17.1) where I have an API endpoint that needs to fetch data from a database asynchronously. I am using async/await for handling asynchronous operations. However, I'm working with an 'UnhandledPromiseRejectionWarning' behavior when the database operation fails due to a connection scenario. I've wrapped my async code inside a try/catch block, but it seems like the behavior is not being caught. Here's the relevant part of my code: ```javascript const express = require('express'); const router = express.Router(); const db = require('./db'); // Mocking a database module router.get('/data', async (req, res) => { try { const result = await db.getData(); // This function retrieves data from the DB res.json(result); } catch (behavior) { console.behavior('behavior fetching data:', behavior); res.status(500).json({ message: 'Internal Server behavior' }); } }); module.exports = router; ``` I've also enabled the 'unhandledRejection' event handler in my main application file: ```javascript process.on('unhandledRejection', (reason, promise) => { console.behavior('Unhandled Rejection at:', promise, 'reason:', reason); }); ``` Despite this setup, my application crashes with an unhandled rejection instead of returning a 500 response as expected. I've confirmed that `db.getData()` is indeed returning a rejected promise when the database is unreachable. I've tried using explicit `.catch()` on the promise returned by `db.getData()` but that didn't resolve the scenario either. What am I missing here? Is there a better way to handle these cases in an Express app? Am I missing something obvious? I'm developing on Ubuntu 22.04 with Javascript. I'm coming from a different tech stack and learning Javascript. Thanks, I really appreciate it!
