GCP Cloud Functions Timeout When Processing Large JSON Payloads from Pub/Sub
I need some guidance on I have a Google Cloud Function that is triggered by messages from a Pub/Sub topic, and I've run into a timeout scenario when processing large JSON payloads. My function is supposed to handle messages that can be up to 5 MB in size, but I'm working with a timeout behavior, specifically `Function execution took too long; terminating.` I have set the timeout of the function to the maximum allowed time of 540 seconds, but it still times out intermittently when processing larger messages. Hereβs what my function looks like: ```javascript const {PubSub} = require('@google-cloud/pubsub'); exports.processMessage = async (message, context) => { const data = Buffer.from(message.data, 'base64').toString(); const jsonPayload = JSON.parse(data); // Simulate processing time for large payload await new Promise((resolve) => setTimeout(resolve, 60000)); // 60 seconds processing time console.log('Processed message:', jsonPayload); }; ``` Iβve also tried increasing the memory allocation to 2GB, but that doesn't seem to have an impact. The function is deployed using the gcloud command as follows: ```bash gcloud functions deploy processMessage \ --runtime nodejs14 \ --trigger-topic my-topic \ --timeout 540s \ --memory 2048MB ``` I suspect the scenario could be related to the way I'm processing the message or the way Google Cloud Functions handle execution context for larger payloads. Are there any best practices or configurations I might be missing to successfully process large messages without hitting the timeout? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
