Handling large JSON payloads in Node.js with Express and avoiding server crashes

node.js express json performance body-parser JavaScript

I'm relatively new to this, so bear with me. I've searched everywhere and can't find a clear answer. I'm working with a serious scenario when trying to process large JSON payloads in my Node.js application using Express. The application throws a `PayloadTooLargeError` when I attempt to send JSON data that exceeds the default limit. I have tried increasing the payload limit using the `body-parser` middleware with `app.use(bodyParser.json({ limit: '10mb' }));`, but even after adjusting the limit, I'm still experiencing performance degradation and occasional crashes due to memory overload. Hereโ€™s a snippet of how I set up my Express server: ```javascript const express = require('express'); const bodyParser = require('body-parser'); const app = express(); app.use(bodyParser.json({ limit: '10mb' })); app.post('/upload', (req, res) => { // Process incoming JSON here console.log(req.body); res.send('Data received!'); }); app.listen(3000, () => { console.log('Server is running on port 3000'); }); ``` Iโ€™ve also tried switching to the built-in Express JSON parser by replacing `body-parser` with `app.use(express.json({ limit: '10mb' }));`, but the behavior remains the same. The payloads Iโ€™m dealing with can sometimes be over 15MB, and Iโ€™m worried about how to handle them without crashing the server. Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s a good idea to increase the limit beyond 10MB or if I should implement some form of streaming or chunking for the incoming data. Is there a recommended approach for effectively managing large JSON payloads in a Node.js application without compromising performance or stability? Any insights or best practices would be greatly appreciated. This is part of a larger API I'm building. Any ideas what could be causing this? How would you solve this?
