Linux System Freezes and Shows 'Out of Memory' Errors When Running Heavy Java Application
Quick question that's been bugging me - I'm experiencing severe memory issues on my CentOS 7 server while trying to run a Java application that uses Apache Spark..... The application runs fine for a while, but then the system becomes unresponsive, and I can see 'Out of Memory' errors in the logs. Here's a snippet from my `dmesg` output: ``` Out of memory: Kill process 1234 (java) score 123 or sacrifice child Killed process 1234 (java) total-vm:2048000kB, anon-rss:1024000kB, file-rss:0kB ``` I have 8GB of RAM and am running the application with the following Java options: ``` java -Xms4g -Xmx6g -jar my-spark-app.jar ``` I've tried tuning the JVM parameters by adjusting `-Xms` and `-Xmx`, but the question continues. Additionally, I increased the swap space to 4GB, which helped a bit but did not resolve the scenario completely. I suspect that there's a memory leak in my Spark job or perhaps an scenario with the memory management on CentOS. I've checked for any unnecessary services running using `systemctl` and killed a few, but the question still occurs.
