Bash script scenarios to iterate over file lines containing special characters
I'm migrating some code and I'm working on a project and hit a roadblock. I'm working with an scenario with a bash script that processes lines from a text file, but it seems to break when it encounters special characters like `&`, `#`, or `@`. The script is supposed to read each line and perform some transformations, but I get unexpected behavior and the iteration stops. Here's the relevant part of my script: ```bash while IFS= read -r line; do echo "Processing: $line" # Some transformation logic done < input.txt ``` The input file `input.txt` contains lines like: ``` Hello World Special & Characters Another # Test Final @ Line ``` When it reaches the line with `Special & Characters`, the script stops running and I see no further output. I’ve tried quoting the line, but it doesn’t seem to help. Additionally, I've checked for any syntax errors and the script runs fine with simpler lines that don't include special characters. I’ve also set `set -x` for debugging but it doesn’t show anything after the problematic line. Could this be due to how bash handles special characters in the read command? What can I do to ensure my script continues processing all lines regardless of their contents? This is part of a larger application I'm building. Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm working in a macOS environment. What's the best practice here? This is for a CLI tool running on macOS. Am I approaching this the right way?
