Handling System.OutOfMemoryException When Processing Large CSV Files with CsvHelper in .NET 6
Quick question that's been bugging me - I'm performance testing and I'm currently working on a C# application using .NET 6 that processes large CSV files with the CsvHelper library. The application functions well with smaller files, but when I try to process a CSV file that's around 500 MB, I encounter a `System.OutOfMemoryException`. I've tried multiple approaches to mitigate this scenario, including using `StreamReader` for file reading and configuring the CsvReader to read in a more memory-efficient way, but I still get the exception. Here’s a snippet of my current code: ```csharp using (var reader = new StreamReader("path/to/largefile.csv")) using (var csv = new CsvReader(reader, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture)) { while (csv.Read()) { var record = csv.GetRecord<MyModel>(); // Process the record } } ``` I’ve also tried increasing the application’s memory limits in the configuration file, but that didn’t help either. The exception is thrown during the reading process, not during the processing of records, which makes it even more puzzling. Does anyone have suggestions on how to optimize memory usage when dealing with large CSV files in .NET 6? Are there specific patterns or configurations in CsvHelper that can help with this scenario? Also, are there any best practices for processing large datasets that I might be missing? Has anyone else encountered this? This is for a microservice running on Debian. I'm open to any suggestions. What would be the recommended way to handle this?
