Handling Background Task Expiration in iOS with Swift
I'm trying to configure I've searched everywhere and can't find a clear answer. I'm learning this framework and I'm relatively new to this, so bear with me..... I'm currently working on an iOS application that performs data synchronization in the background using the `URLSession` background configuration. The scenario arises when the background task is nearing expiration, and I am trying to gracefully handle this event. I've set up my `URLSession` like this: ```swift let config = URLSessionConfiguration.background(withIdentifier: "com.example.app.background") let session = URLSession(configuration: config, delegate: self, delegateQueue: nil) ``` In my delegate method `urlSession(_:task:didCompleteWithError:)`, I can check for errors, but I'm struggling with how to manage the expiration when the system decides to terminate my background task. I expected to receive the `urlSessionDidFinishEvents(forBackgroundURLSession:)` callback, but it doesn't seem like thatβs happening before the timeout occurs, resulting in incomplete data uploads. I've tried increasing the timeout interval with: ```swift config.timeoutIntervalForRequest = 300 // 5 minutes ``` However, I still see the log message "Background task expired" after approximately 10 minutes. Is there a specific best practice I should follow to avoid this situation? Also, how do I properly handle the scenario where my app is terminated and restarted after a background task expiration? Is there a way to continue the upload state so that I can resume the task? Currently, I'm updating a local database during the upload process, but I'm not sure how to handle that when the task is interrupted. Any insights or examples would be greatly appreciated! I'm working on a web app that needs to handle this. Is there a better approach? Has anyone else encountered this? I'm working with Swift in a Docker container on Ubuntu 22.04.
